MiDeer Consulting - Your Lighthouse to China Since 2001 SERVICE · MARKET ACTIVATION

Market Activation

Turn your China strategy into tangible cross-border traction — qualified partner identification, warm introductions, negotiation support and pilot launch. This is where a plan becomes pipeline.

For NZ businesses with a clear China strategy, ready to activate partnerships and launch pilot operations.

Ideal For

Clear strategy, ready to move — now find the partners

We identify, verify and help you secure high-value cross-border partnerships aligned with your commercial objectives — from due diligence and negotiation through to relationship management, for distributors, investors, joint venture partners and strategic alliances across the NZ–China market.

One honest boundary: we don't act as your distributor or China representative. Our job is to find, evaluate and help you secure the right qualified partner — then stand beside you while the relationship proves itself.

  • You have a China strategy — ours, another adviser's, or your own — and it's time to act on it
  • You need partners identified and pre-vetted: distributors, agents, retail channels, strategic allies
  • You want warm introductions and structured negotiation, not cold outreach that gets ignored
  • You're preparing a pilot or first commercial agreement and want it structured properly

What You Get

Four workstreams. One goal: a working partnership.

Every engagement is built around a signed, working partnership — or a fast, clean no. Where relevant, we also flag NZ/China government grant pathways (such as NZTE) that can help fund your work.

Qualified Partner Identification

Distributors, agents, strategic allies, retail channels and other local partners — sourced across China and pre-screened for capability, track record and fit before any meeting.

Facilitated Introductions & Engagement

Warm, context-prepared introductions to shortlisted partners — both sides briefed, so first conversations read as mutual interest, not a cold pitch.

Negotiation & Structure Advisory

Cross-border negotiation support and honest guidance on structure — distribution, agency, joint venture, alliance or licensing — with compliant, balanced agreements.

Pilot & Initial Agreement Support

Support designing your pilot and first commercial agreement — with performance milestones, clear exit provisions and dispute resolution built in from day one.

How We Work

Identification to implementation, managed end to end

Each step is deliberate: define what you need, find who fits, negotiate properly, then support the relationship while it proves itself.

STEP 01

Define Objectives & Criteria

We align on your commercial goals, risk tolerance and ideal partner profile — so every candidate is judged against what you actually need, not a vague wish list.

STEP 02

Identify & Screen Partners

Candidates are sourced and pre-qualified across China through our local networks and market research — with capability assessment, track record verification, reputational checks and, where relevant, legal and compliance review.

STEP 03

Negotiate & Structure the Agreement

We facilitate the cross-border conversations and help structure fair, compliant agreements — distribution, agency, joint venture, alliance or licensing — with clear terms from the outset.

STEP 04

Implementation & Ongoing Support

We guide post-agreement execution — early orders, first delivery cycles, the pilot — and stay on as your cross-border relationship support while traction builds.

Track Record

Activation in practice

From live, ongoing partner engagements to cross-border structuring at scale — the same discipline, applied.

FAQ

The questions we're asked most

Q1. How do you identify and vet potential partners in China?

Through a blend of our on-the-ground NZ–China networks, targeted market research and structured due diligence. That includes capability assessment, commercial track record verification, reputational checks and, where applicable, legal and compliance reviews — so you only ever meet partners who have already been screened.

Q2. Can MiDeer act as our local partner or representative in China?

No — and we're upfront about it. We're a specialist NZ–China advisory firm, not a trading partner, distributor or local representative. We use our local expertise to help you find, evaluate and structure compliant, high-value partnerships with qualified Chinese commercial entities.

Q3. How long does it take to identify and secure a suitable partner?

For most NZ–China partnerships, identification and negotiation typically take 3–6 months. Larger transactions — for example a substantial joint venture or cross-border investment structure — can take longer, depending on stakeholder alignment, legal structuring and regulatory approvals.

Q4. What happens if a partnership doesn't work out?

We structure NZ–China agreements with clear exit provisions, performance milestones and dispute resolution clauses from the start. If a partnership needs restructuring or an orderly exit, we guide you through the commercial, legal and relationship side — to minimise disruption and protect what you've built.

Q5. What does an engagement cost?

We work on a fixed-fee project basis. After a free 45-minute consultation we scope the work to your objectives — the partner categories to search, the depth of due diligence, and how far into negotiation you want us involved — and confirm a written quote before we start. Once agreed, that's the price: no hourly billing, no hidden extras.

The Journey

Where activation sits

Activation is what you do once you know who needs you. It follows entry strategy — and leads naturally into growth once the partnership is delivering.
